The Anatomy Of A Lawsuit

It's late Friday afternoon. You are looking forward to dinner, a good night's rest and a day of golf tomorrow. Your employees are beginning to watch the clock. A visitor arrives, asks for you and approaches you holding a wad of white papers circled by a rubber band. You are unpleasantly surprised to hear your name spoken, followed by the words: "You have been served with a lawsuit."

During the ensuing year (or two) you will think about and act on the lawsuit every day. It will become "The Lawsuit." Many times, you will be puzzled at the terminology of the lawsuit, the ups and downs, the meaning of a judge's ruling; you will perhaps be amazed at the fact that a seemingly ridiculous claim can be such a problematic and costly lawsuit.

An examination of the anatomy of a lawsuit may assist you.
